Annual Sports Meet-2019

Sacred Heart Convent Sr. Sec. School, Sahnewal celebrated its 16th Annual Sports Meet cum Cultural  Bonanza ‘Exsupero-2019’ with pomp and splendour on 8th and 9th November 2019 with an objective to inculcate the spirit of sportsmanship and fondness for sports in children. The distinguished Chief Guest of Opening Ceremony was Mr Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, former MLA, Sahnewal and the Guest of Honour was the Most Rev. Msgr. Xavier Thazhathuveettil, Chairman of Diocese Board of Education. The Special Guest was our alumnus Gurkomal Singh who proved his mettle at  National Level Athletics. The dignitaries were welcomed with saplings and were pinned badges by Director of the school Rev. Fr. William Sahota, Principal Rev. Sr. Crispin Maria and the School Cabinet.

The Opening Ceremony commenced with the Guard of Honour presented to the Chief Guest by the members of the Students’ Council. The Chief Guest hoisted the school flag followed by the lighting of the torch. The Annual Sports meet 2019 was declared open formally by our esteemed Chief Guest. An oath was administered to students to participate in the sports day with true sportsman spirit followed by spectacular march-past. Prayer Dance laid the ground for other lovely performances like Musical P.T, Drill Dance, Aerobics, Zumba and Fusion Dance etc. The spectators were particularly enthused by the gymnastic performances and praised the efforts profusely.  All the students participated with great excitement in track and field events. Notable among them were various kinds of races including relay race, 100m, 200m and 400m races for the boys and girls in the senior and junior category. The audience appreciated the races and cheered the athletes. The students touched the hearts strings of one and all with their scintillating performances, spelling out happiness to an amazing audience. The ground echoed the triumphant yells of the winners.

The Closing Ceremony was graced by Mr Bhupinder Singh Sidhu, AIG of Police (STF) accompanied with his son Mr Punar Pratap Singh Sidhu, National Level Shooter and the Guest of honour for the second day was Rev. Fr. Martin Sadiq, Director of Prathna Bhawan T.V.(Television). The Special Guest was our alumni Nawaz Singh Panaich, National Level Athlete along with the upcoming singing sensation Prabh Bains.

The Closing Ceremony kicked off with the most electrifying house wise events of 400m relay race. Tug of War between participants added bling to already geared up the crowd. The sparkling performance of the day was Grand finale showcasing the theme declared by the United Nations for the year 2019 ‘Indigenous Languages’. The parents were left awe-struck and they enjoyed the show spellbound.

The Chief Guest awarded medals and trophies to the meritorious achievers and to the winners of different races and competitions. ‘The Best Athlete of the Year’ trophy in the junior boys’ and girls’ category was bagged by Anmol Singh Rai, Hussan Preet kaur, In the sub senior boys’ and girls’ category Rattandeep Singh and Nitasha and in the senior category by Akash Kumar and Sukhmandeep Kaur respectively. ‘Saraswati House’ was declared the ‘Best House’ in Sports for the year 2019. The Mascot donned Unicorn was declared as the Best House Representative from Saraswati House.  Finally, the show penultimate with the vote of thanks and encouraging words by the Chief Guest. He praised the endeavours of the school and congratulated all the winners. The Director Rev. Fr. William Sahota proposed the vote of thanks and encouraged the students to participate in diverse activities for holistic grooming of personality and also thanked parents for their support and encouragement that lent charm to the event. The Sports Meet culminated with the National Anthem.
